ecently, we’ve seen a spate
of news items reporting
that friendships help
prolong life. Good to know,
but I’m pretty sure that
most of us value our friends
for what they add to our life
right now— the fun, the easy conversation,
the generous support when we need it. Who
else but a friend is going to weigh in on the
right color for the guest room? Or give us
new perspectives when we’re facing a major
life decision?
Friends, like family, are a part of our
happiness and essential to our equilibrium.
That’s underscored by the amazing growth
of social networking online, which lets
friends stay in touch w ith ease and imme-
diacy. For example, a few months ago, I set up
a Facebook page to share photos w ith my
family. In no time flat, I found myself catching
up w ith former schoolmates and neighbors,
w ith kids of friends, and friends of kids. I love
that in just a few minutes a day, I can see
whose child hit a home run, find out who’s
starting a new job, or view snapshots of the
new baby.
Better Homes and Gardens
has always
played a role in social networking— bringing
together smart, energetic people who share
an interest in home, food, and living well.
Now we have a new way to connect w ith
you— and to connect you w ith others—
through our new
Better Homes and Gardens
group on
MixingBowl.com.
(The site’s tagline:
Food and friends made fresh daily.)
It’s a fun,
welcoming place to exchange recipes, meet
other readers, and find people who share
your cooking style and interests. See
details below.
You’ll find me there posting recipes and
food ideas, and I hope you’ll do the same.
After all, there’s
always
room in life for one
more friend.
